Exquisite and rare mahogany table chronometer by the famous firm of Thomas Mercer. Circa.1924. The case is constructed from the finest plum pudding mahogany especially chosen for its wonderful grain and has rectangular bevelled glasses to view the beautifully finished movement and chronometer escapement.The circular brass, silvered dial is signed Thomas Mercer, London & St.Albans.ESTb1858. MAKER TO THE ADMIRALTY. It is numbered 595, and has running seconds at 12 ‘o’ clock, an up and down scale at 6 together with a start stop lever at 1.The superb quality, jewelled 8 day chain and fusee movement has double screwed bulbous pillars and is spot finished throughout. The chronometer escapement is on a spot finished platform sited on top of the movement. A most elegant clock equally at home in an office or home.
