An English gilt brass chronometer carriage clock by the famous chronometer makers Thomas Mercer. The tapering case has a folding handle with bevelled glass panels to the top and the sides with a solid rear plate that has a hand setting knob and start/stop lever.
The silvered dial is signed Thomas Mercer, No. 1199 with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial at 12 ‘o’clock and a state of wind indicator at 6. The substantial eight day chain fusee movement with maintaining power, Earnshaw type detent escapement with a palladium helical balance spring and heavy bimetallic balance.
